After selecting one tree to adopt for the month of March, please let us know:

  • The address or specific location of your tree (we will be creating a map of our adopted trees)

  • What your tree looks like, what kind of tree do you think it is (You do not need to know the specific kind of tree yet just describe it if you can)

  • What is around your tree (Are there other trees, is there a building, is it on the street, etc.)

  • Why you chose that particular tree

Service Berry trees are neat. Choosing a tree near your home is great because then it's easy to observe it many times and watch for changes or differences.

1. My tree is located in front of 319 south 44th street
2. My tree is very thin. It has a dark brown trunk, and it is about 25 or more feet. There are many branches connected to it that go into more directions that lead to even smaller branches.
3. My tree is surrounded by an evergreen bush. There are two more smaller trees in front of it, and a large London Plane tree further in front. All of the four trees reach high into the sky, with many branches. My tree is in a dirt area that is about 15-20 ft across, with many flowers and grass patches.
4. I chose this tree because, first, it is close to where I live. And I can also closley observe it very eaisly. The tree is also interesting because all kinds of wildlife, such as many squirrels live in or near it, so sometimes I see squirrels and baby birds in it, or in a tree nearby.

The wildlife is a great thing to notice. Much of the wildlife that we have in the city are very dependent on trees for food and shelter. I'm glad you're thinking about that and motivated by it.

4.The reason why I chose this particular tree is because I thought I would like to take an interest on an Oak Tree because I love oak trees.

I wonder what scratched up the bark? Or maybe the bark isn't scratched by just cracking apart as it grows? What makes you like oak trees so much?

1. My tree is located in front of my house. My house is located on south 45th street in between Larchwood Ave and Osage Ave.
2. My tree has no leaves right now and has not started to bud yet. My tree is as tall as the wires that bring us energy. It has brown bark and the branches are very skinny.
3. Around my tree are cars because it is very close to the street. It has no flowers around it but very close to it is a sidewalk which after that are Two houses that are separated by a path that goes to both of our back yards.
4. I choose this tree because I walk by it every day to go to school and do activities. It is also so close to my house

Sometimes the trees are cut to try to keep the branches away from the power lines so they don't cause problems if the branches break or sway in big storms. Sometimes the trees near the power lines are why we lose power during storms.

1. My tree is located in Clarks Park, where there is no playgrounds.
2. My tree is thick and has bark on the bottom but not on the top, and it has brown fuzzy balls that are spikey and its on the end of most branches. It is about 35 feet or higher. It has a lot of branches on it as well.
3. Around my tree are other trees in the area and it has a fake turtle next to it. It is in a park near a sidewalk.
4. I chose this tree because I thought it stood out from the other trees.

Those spikey balls are actually seed pods and it sounds like your tree might be what's called a Sweet Gum tree.

My tree is located in the left corner of my backyards in the 4200 block of Pine Street. My tree is very tall and has really dark bark on it. My tree has other trees in back of it and a tree across from it. I chose this tree because it is very tall and it is shaped in a cool way.

Interesting and weird shapes are always something I like about particular trees too. Some types of trees actually grow in funny ways naturally, while other trees can be trained by humans to grow in different and strange ways on purpose.

1) My tree is in the woodland cemetery
2) On mt tree a lot of the branches are growing into each other. It looks like there is a sphere in the center and all of the branches are are growing around it.
3) It has six grave stones next to it.It is in a cemetery and on grass with a trail around it.
4) I choose my tree because it looks like it is many trees that are all conjoined.

Wow! Your tree sounds so neat! I really wish I could see it, so if you could either take a picture of it or draw a sketch of it, I'll be sure to put it up on the site so everyone can see what a unique tree you have chosen!

My tree is in my backyard. (204 St Mark Square). It's skinny, and has no leaves yet. It is in a yard and there are no flowers around it. I chose it because it is in my backyard.
