After selecting one tree to adopt for the month of March, please let us know:

  • The address or specific location of your tree (we will be creating a map of our adopted trees)
  • What your tree looks like and what kind of tree you think it might be (You do not need to know the specific kind of tree yet just describe it if you can, I encourage you to bring a picture/drawing to class)
  • What is around your tree (Are there other trees, is there a building, is it on the street, etc.)
  • Why did you choose that particular tree?

When submitting a comment please put your room number and assigned letter instead of your name!

My tree is really big and beautiful. It is right across the street from my apartment in Buckingham Place. It does not have any leaves now. It looks really really lovely. It has a lot of thin branches. It is on the sidewalk. I chose it because it looks really cool and I bet in the spring it will have a lot of beautiful blossoms and leaves. I really like that tree.

My tree is near the corner of 47th and Larchwood. It is like a two tined fork. It is short because it is very young. It does not have leaves. It has a few buds. It is in a yard near other trees and plants and gets lots of sunlight. I chose that tree because it is in my front yard and it was the only small plant that I knew was actually a tree.

Science Teacher
3/8/2013 05:59:55 am

My tree is tall and brown. It's located at 49 th street and Larchwood, front #447, 49th St and close to my grandma house. I choose this tree because is smart because his branches can go up beyond the wires. I choose it also because he has another tree close to him, they look like brothers.

Science Teacher
3/8/2013 07:58:09 am

It's neat that there are two trees that look like brothers. Also I like how you said that the tree seemed "smart" because it was avoiding the wires. Some plants are much "smarter" than we think. They often do things to adapt to their environment that surprise us!

My tree is on the 500 block of S 45th St. It has red berries. A lot of birds fly on it. I don't know what kind it is. My tree is in the sidewalk. There is a square of dirt with a bunch of bricks around the edges and my tree is in the middle of the square. I choose this tree because I can see it when it rains because it is right outside of my window.

Science Teacher
3/8/2013 08:01:32 am

I wonder why the birds like this tree so much? It might have something to do with them liking to eat those red berries.

My tree on the 900 block of S Farragut St. The tree is in the sidewalk, in a tree lawn. This tree is sick, the bark is peeling off and is black on the sick part of the tree. The sick part is between the 2 main branches where they are on the trunk.

Science Teacher
3/10/2013 11:28:44 am

Some trees do get "sick" or diseased from damage done to them. The damage can be from a variety of things, including insects and pests. Do you think the "sickness" is because of bugs or something else?
