After selecting one tree to adopt for the month of March, please let us know:

  • The address or specific location of your tree (we will be creating a map of our adopted trees)
  • What your tree looks like and what kind of tree you think it might be (You do not need to know the specific kind of tree yet just describe it if you can, I encourage you to bring a picture/drawing to class)
  • What is around your tree (Are there other trees, is there a building, is it on the street, etc.)
  • Why did you choose that particular tree?

When submitting a comment please put your room number and assigned letter instead of your name!

My tree is near the intersection of South Melville Street and Baltimore Avenue. My tree is a hibiscus tree. It has lots of green leaves in the springtime and it also has pink flowers. It is about six feet tall. There is another tree near my tree. There are lots of houses near my tree. It is on a street. I chose this particular tree because it is one of my favorite trees and I see it everyday.

It might sound silly but I've always had trouble with saying "hibiscus" the right way. That's a tough word, but a really cool tree!

My tree is in my backyard near 46th and Larchwood. It's gray. It has a birdhouse in it. It's trunk is bumpy. It has lots of branches. In the springtime, it has pink flowers. Around my tree is grass, little bushes and the alley. I choose this tree because it's my tree.

The birdhouse is fun. What kinds of birds like the house I wonder?

I think you are one of very few people who has chosen a pine tree! I'm glad you did something different!

Sorry this is my sister's. We entered it by mistake.

My tree is a tree that is in the front yard and it is prickly I chose this
tree because I can hide stuff and it won't get hurt.

Science Teacher

No problem! It's fun to see the two observations side by side.

My tree is next to my house on Saint Marks sq. My tree is green and brown and tall. It is so cool because it has a swing on it. For now I am not sure which kind of tree is it but I will find out soon. I chose this tree because it has swing and all kids from my street love it.

Science Teacher

I'm jealous of the swing on your tree! That's so much fun! Is it a tire swing, a wooden swing or some other kind of swing?

1) It's in my backyard, on Larchwood St.
2) It's a plum tree. It has dark branches.
3) My house and the sidewalk. There are two other trees.
4) I chose my tree because I like plums.

Science Teacher

The branches are darker in color than the rest of the tree or just in general darker than other trees around. Good observation.

Hi! My tree is located in Baltimore Ave. It is very big and tall. It has row houses around it and it is on the sidewalk. I want to do my project about this tree because it is my favorite tree on my block!!!

Hello! What makes this tree your favorite? Is it because it's big and tall?

It is at the end of my alley (between Baltimore and Larchwood, 46th and Melville). It has no leaves on it. There are a lot of branches and they look slanted. It's tan, yucky-brownish. The sidewalk and other trees are around it. It's pretty tall, like a building. I picked it because it looks cool.

Science Teacher
3/7/2013 09:36:38 am

At first I thought you didn't like the look of it because you used the term "yucky" but I agree that "yucky" can sometimes look really cool! I bet the slanted branches are part of what make it look so cool too. You should make a drawing of it or take a picture, so we can see it. If you do, bring it in to science class and I'll upload it on the site!

My tree is located outside my house on Melville Street. The tree is big and tall. It has no leaves and its an old tree. It has a lot of branches. The bark looks very dry with many tiny holes. It looks like bugs live in those holes. The tree is on the sidewalk near other trees. I picked this tree because it is near my house.

Science Teacher
3/7/2013 09:38:31 am

I'm so glad you noticed the holes and are starting to think about what could've made those holes. Some bugs don't bother trees too much but some insects are really hard on a tree, so it makes me think your tree is a tough old tree that has done a good job surviving!

My tree is located at 45th and Pine Street. It looks like a plum tree. It is not very tall. It has brown branches. It does not have leaves yet, but I can see purple buds on the branches. There are other trees around my tree on Pine Street. It is near my apartment building. I choose this tree because it is a plum tree. It can bear plums in summer, yummy!

My tree is In my neighbors' yard on 41st Street and Chester Avenue. My tree's leaves are red and pointy or bumpy and the tree has a lot of branches from it's trunk. It is a good climbing tree. It is near a fence and the tree's branches hand over the back yards of both my house and my neighbors' house.I choose my tree because it's leaves are red and I love to climb it.

Sounds like a fun tree! It's nice when trees can cross yards like that so multiple families can enjoy them!

42nd and Chester at my house. Small little, no flowers in the winter. It's on the pavement near parked cars. I picked this tree because it's small like me and it's close to my house and in the spring it has pretty flowers.

It is around the corner of my house. In front of 506 44th St. It is a young tree. It is an evergreen tree. It's leaves are like an ovel and are straight and smooth. It is in front of my house and on a sidewalk. I chose it because it has a lot of leaves and it is close to home. It is a magnolia tree.
